If you’re considering moving abroad, here are some harsh realities of expat life that often go unspoken. ➡️

I still can’t believe I was just 23 when I packed my bags and moved to South Korea in 2022. What started as a leap of faith after dropping out of a Master’s degree turned into a whirlwind journey that came to define my early twenties. 💌

Leaving everything behind in Australia for a teaching job, I found myself living through experiences I’d never imagined—both extraordinary and challenging. From navigating a work environment in a language I barely understood, surviving an earthquake, and meeting people who’ve become lifelong friends, to countless moments that were as surreal as they were life-changing.

What would you do if a stranger approached and ask

What would you do if a stranger approached and asked to take your photo? 😳

During my first visit to Seoul, that very thing happened to me. A stranger, camera in hand, approached and asked if he could photograph me. Why, you wonder? As it turned out, he was a professional photographer.

At the time, I was casually taking photos of my friends, and the moment felt serendipitous. I introduced myself, and we struck up a friendly conversation. To my surprise, he offered to take some portrait shots of us—a gesture of generosity I didn’t expect but deeply appreciated.

Typically, you’d pay for photos like these, but it reminded me that there are truly kindhearted people in the world. A little kindness and openness can lead to the most memorable encounters.

Here’s a reminder to open to meeting new people. 🥺🫶🏻

You can get free or discounted entry into attractions, unlimited public transport etc. ② Save money on transport costs - Sometimes you can get discounted rates at hotels or guest hosues the longer you stay. Try to maximise your itinerary by planning out a travel base and do day trips in your Switzerland itinerary. Popular examples include Grindelwald and Interlaken. ③ If you’re a solo traveller book hostels over hotels or airbnbs. ④ Save money on Swiss train and public transport routes tickets by checking if you can book supersaver tickets online or your phone. →can be purcahsed in 1st & 2nd class → only valid for selected travel dates and the chosen public transport connection ⑤ Food can be very expensive in Switzerland. You can travel on a ‘budget’ by limiting eating out and instead buying snacks and meals from supermarkets/grocery stores.
