What season are strawberries in Australia?

The strawberry picking season can vary depending on temperatures and weather patterns. However, usually, the strawberry-picking season falls from late winter, through spring up until early summer in Perth. Strawberry picking season is also popular during the October school holidays.

Looking for more things to do in Perth in spring? Read this local guide.

What month is best for strawberry picking?

In Perth, September to late December are great times for strawberry picking. However, each strawberry farm will have different operating hours for selling their product and the best picking times for their strawberries. For each of the recommended strawberry farms in this post, it’s always recommended to check the latest operating hours on the farm’s website or Facebook page.

Where are strawberries grown in Perth?

Western Australian strawberries are grown mostly in the Carabooda, East Wanneroo, and Bullsbrook areas north of Perth. These areas usually supply 80% of the total exports from Australia.

Tips for Strawberry Picking in Perth

Best Time to Visit

Strawberry season in Perth typically runs from late winter however each strawberry farm has different operating hours depending on their harvest and also how popular their produce has been picked. Make sure to always check before you visit each farm’s operating hours on their website or Facebook page for the specific operating hours. If it’s your first-time strawberry picking I also recommend visiting the farm early if you want a quiet picking experience and to get the best ripest strawberries from the farm.

Respect the Rules

Make sure to always follow the local guidelines provided by the farm, such as which areas to pick from, only picking the ripe strawberries and disposing of your waste properly. Most of the farms also only allow you to use their provided pick-your-own (PYO) boxes to collect the picked strawberries. The prices for PYO boxes will differ in size and price depending on each farm.

Cash

Remember to bring cash to pay for entry and a carrying box to store all your picked strawberries. Most strawberry farms often only accept cash and don’t offer EFTPOS payment.

What to Pack & Wear

Remember to dress comfortably, wear closed-in shoes and pack a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Also, wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty whilst you’re strawberry picking as strawberry picking can get a bit ‘hands-on.’
