The perfect day trip from Amsterdam is just an hou The perfect day trip from Amsterdam is just an hour by train..

Everyone flocks to Amsterdam when they visit the Netherlands… but what about this city?

I spent a week travelling across the country, visiting a different place each day — some bigger, some quieter… but one felt like stepping straight into a painting.

Think: canals weaving through the city, leaning church towers, flower-lined bridges and that iconic blue-and-white pottery you instantly recognise.

This is also where Johannes Vermeer was born — the artist behind Girl with a Pearl Earring — and you can feel that quiet, artistic atmosphere everywhere you go.

There’s history here too. William of Orange is buried inside Nieuwe Kerk, continuing a tradition for the Dutch royal family, while the slightly leaning Oude Kerk watches over the canals below.

If you’re planning a visit, here’s what I’d recommend doing in Delft:

🏛️ Royal Delft – the last remaining Delftware factory where you can watch artists hand-paint the famous ceramics

🎨 Vermeer Centrum Delft – a glimpse into Vermeer’s life and the Dutch Golden Age

🙇🏻‍♀️ Market Square – one of the largest town squares in the country, perfect for a slow coffee stop

🛶 A canal cruise – the best way to see the city from a different perspective

🚶🏻‍♀️ Wander the Old Town – no plan needed, just get a little lost

🚆 And the best part? It’s only about an hour by train from Amsterdam

Tools I’ve used to replace my scrolling addiction Tools I’ve used to replace my scrolling addiction 🙇🏻‍♀️📱

Here are a few interesting apps or online spaces I’ve been reaching for instead of mindlessly scrolling on my phone. Many of them are small, simple tools, but they’ve helped me spend a little less time in the algorithm and more time learning, creating, or simply being curious again.

I’ve realised scrolling usually happens when I’m tired or looking for a quick dopamine hit. Instead of trying to eliminate it completely, I’ve just tried replacing it with things that feel a bit more nourishing.
