Beauty & Hygiene Must-Haves

Travel-sized skincare

Even when I’m on the go, I like to bring my skincare essentials with me. For flights, I make sure everything is travel-sized to save space and stay within liquid limits. Since long-haul flights can really dry out your skin, I find it helpful to pack products I know will keep me feeling hydrated and refreshed.

I’ve listed all the items I use in my full skincare routine here, but when it comes to in-flight essentials, especially for freshening up before landing or during layovers, I’ll break those down below.

  • D’Alba Truffle Spray Serum – A hydrating mist that revives tired, dull skin. Perfect for misting during long-haul flights.
  • Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Mini) – A must-have for keeping lips soft and hydrated in dry cabin air. Doubles as a daytime balm.
  • Travel-size Moisturiser – Choose a rich, barrier-protecting cream to lock in hydration. The ETUDE SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream has been my favourite moisturiser lately.
  • Kahi Wrinkle Bounce Multi Balm Stick – Easy to apply on the go for that glowy, glass-skin finish. Great for touch-ups mid-flight.
  • Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Sun Stick – Essential for arrival day. Go for a lightweight, moisturising and non-greasy formula.
  • Hand cream – Airplane cabins can really dry out your skin, so a nourishing hand cream is a must. Opt for a lightly scented one for a subtle mood lift. My favourite is the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Hand Cream—it gives instant hydration and soothing relief.

Face wipes

I usually skip makeup when flying, but I always wear sunscreen on day flights. Packing face wipes comes in handy, they’re great for removing sunscreen, makeup, or simply freshening up mid-flight when you can’t do a full cleanse. Since I have sensitive skin, I always use gentle, sensitive wipes that won’t cause irritation.

Deodorant & Perfume

I always pack a travel-friendly roll-on deodorant for flights. It’s compact, effective, and perfect for freshening up during long journeys. Since I love wearing perfume but don’t want to carry a full-sized bottle, I use a refillable perfume atomiser instead. It’s a great way to stay within airline liquid limits, save space, and still add a little luxury to your post-flight routine. There’s something so comforting about spritzing your favourite scent after a long haul, and lately I’ve been reaching for this one from Chanel. It feels timeless and instantly elevates how I feel after hours in the air.

Lip Balm

Cabin air can be incredibly drying, especially on long-haul flights, so I always bring a deeply nourishing lip balm to prevent chapped or cracked lips. Look for ingredients like shea butter or ceramides for lasting hydration. Bonus points if it doubles as a subtle gloss to freshen up your look before landing. Here are a few of my favourite lip balm products I regularly use in my skincare routine.

The Ultimate Female Travel Essentials Guide for Carry-On Packing on International Trips

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm

A moisturising beeswax natural lip balm that keeps your lips hydrated with nourishing oils and butter. It comes in a variety of flavours, and my favourite is the coconut and pear.

The Ultimate Female Travel Essentials Guide for Carry-On Packing on International Trips

LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm

If you’re looking for a tinted lip balm that is moisturising as well as provides that soft shine look, no further than the LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm. It’s lightweight and contains Shea and Murumuru seed butters to provide a glossy finish and instant hydration.

Ultimate Female Travel Essentials Guide for Carry-On Packing on International Trips

NIVEA Moisture Lip Care

A moisturising lip balm that’s made 99.5% of naturally derived ingredients. It contains Vitamins C and E and Shea Butter to repair dry lips, perfect for long flights.

Ultimate Female Travel Essentials Guide for Carry-On Packing on International Trips

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Lip Balm Duo

A creamy coconut lip balm that helps your lips stay hydrated all day but also protects against cracking from environmental stressors.

Toothbrush and toothpaste

Brushing your teeth before landing can make you feel instantly more refreshed, especially after in-flight meals or a nap. I recommend packing a foldable travel toothbrush or using a toothbrush cover to keep it hygienic in your toiletry bag. A travel-sized toothpaste is usually more than enough for several uses.

Hand Sanitiser & Sanitising Wipes

Airports and planes are germ central, so these are non-negotiable. A travel-sized hand sanitiser keeps your hands fresh when sinks aren’t nearby, and sanitising wipes are perfect for those high-touch spots—think tray tables, seatbelts, or even hotel remotes and light switches. Pack both for quick, stress-free hygiene wherever your trip takes you.

Hair Ties & Compact Brush or Comb

I always pack a few extra hair ties—because let’s be honest, they seem to disappear mid-trip. A compact or foldable hairbrush is a game-changer when space is tight, and it’s great for taming your hair before landing or heading straight to an event after arrival. I usually pack my Tangle Teezer in my checked luggage and carry a foldable hairbrush in my carry-on.

Tissues & Feminine Hygiene Products

You never know when you’ll need a tissue—whether it’s a sneeze, a spill, or a restroom with no paper. I also recommend packing a small stash of feminine hygiene products, even if you’re not expecting your period. Travel pouches help keep everything tidy, discreet, and easily accessible.

Travel towel

A fast-drying microfiber towel is one of those underrated essentials that come in handy more often than you’d expect. It’s lightweight, packs down small, and is perfect for beach days, spontaneous swims, overnight stays, or even just washing your face in an airport bathroom during a long layover.

Clothing & Comfort Items

Neck Pillow

A neck pillow is a game-changer for long-haul flights, especially when you’re trying to sleep upright in an economy seat. It supports your neck and helps prevent stiffness or discomfort during the flight. Choose a memory foam or inflatable version that offers ergonomic support while still being compact enough to attach to your bag or tuck into your carry-on. A good neck pillow can make all the difference in arriving at your destination well-rested.

Compression socks

Long flights can cause swelling and discomfort in your legs, so I always pack compression socks to improve circulation and reduce fatigue. They’re especially helpful on flights over six hours and make a big difference in how you feel upon arrival. Plus, they come in stylish designs nowadays, so you don’t have to sacrifice fashion for comfort.

Sleep Mask & Earplugs or Noise-Cancelling Headphones

To get quality rest on a plane, I bring a soft sleep mask to block out light and either earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones to reduce ambient noise. These simple items help create a more peaceful environment so you can catch some shut-eye, even in busy cabins or noisy terminals. Noise-cancelling headphones also double as great gear for enjoying music or movies without interruption.

Comfortable cardigan or jacket

Planes can get chilly, so a cozy, lightweight cardigan or jacket is a must-have. It’s perfect for layering and easily slips off when you’re warm. I like something that’s versatile enough to wear on and off the plane—whether you’re heading straight to a meeting or a casual outing after you land.

This 100% merino wool cardigan from Uniqlo has been a staple in my wardrobe for work and also on my travels.

Technology & Entertainment

iFly Bluetooth Earphone Adaptor

Many airlines provide in-flight entertainment with wired headphone jacks, so I bring an iFly Bluetooth headphone adapter to connect my wireless headphones. It’s a simple gadget that lets me enjoy movies and music wirelessly without being tethered by cables—making the flight experience much more comfortable.

Portable Charger

Keeping your devices charged during travel is a lifesaver, especially when you’re relying on your phone for boarding passes, maps, or entertainment. I always pack a compact portable charger so I can recharge on the go without searching for an outlet. It’s perfect for long layovers or when you’re out exploring unfamiliar places.

Make sure to check your airline’s restrictions on carrying a power bank in carry-on luggage. In most cases, power banks must be under 100Wh.

Universal Travel Adapter

A universal travel adapter is essential for international trips to keep all your electronics powered up. Instead of juggling multiple adapters, I opt for one that works in several countries and includes USB ports for charging phones, tablets, and other gadgets all at once. It saves space and prevents the stress of being caught with dead devices abroad.

Ereader

I prefer carrying an e-reader over physical books to save space and weight in my bag. I’ve been loving using my Kobo Clara Colour, which holds hundreds of titles, making it perfect for long flights, layovers, or quiet moments on the road. Plus, adjustable lighting means you can read comfortably whether it’s day or night.

Looking for your next great read? I’ve shared curated recommendations on Fable for different genres and interests to help you dive back into reading.

Downloaded entertainment

I always prefer to download my own movies, TV shows, podcasts, or playlists ahead of time. Having your favourite entertainment ready to go keeps boredom at bay and makes the journey more enjoyable, no matter where you are. If you’re looking for media recommendations, I’ve got a weekly newsletter where I share recommendations about the media I’ve consumed and a monthly series sharing upcoming media to have you on your watch and reading list.

Here are a few other resources you might enjoy:

Organisational Travel Essentials

Travel Pouches

Travel pouches are a game-changer for keeping your belongings neat and easy to find. I use different-sized pouches to separate toiletries, makeup, chargers, and important documents. They help prevent spills, save space, and make security checks smoother by keeping everything organised and accessible.

Tech Holder

A dedicated tech holder keeps all your gadgets and accessories in one place—chargers, earphones, adapters, and cables. It prevents tangles and lost items, so you don’t have to rummage through your bag searching for what you need. Compact and lightweight, it’s perfect for staying organised on the go.

Cable Organisers

Cable organisers are essential for keeping your cords neat and tangle-free. Whether it’s charging cables, earphones, or USB cords, having them bundled prevents damage and saves time when you need to plug in quickly. I like using silicone straps or a zippered case that fits easily into my tech holder or carry-on.

Medicine Pill Organiser

If you’re carrying any medication in your carry-on, a compact pill organiser can help keep everything sorted and easy to access. It’s especially useful for multi-day trips or long flights, allowing you to store daily prescriptions, pain relievers, vitamins, or motion sickness tablets in one place. Be sure to pack any essential medication in your carry-on (never checked luggage) and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s note in case you’re questioned at customs.

Travel Bottles

Travel bottles are essential for packing your favourite toiletries without exceeding liquid limits. Choose leak-proof, TSA-approved bottles (under 100ml each) to decant shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or face cleanser. Silicone bottles are a great option because they’re flexible, lightweight, and easy to squeeze. Keep all liquids together in a clear, resealable 1-litre bag for smooth passage through airport security.

Miscellaneous Female Travel Essentials

Reusable Water Bottle

Bringing a reusable water bottle is one of the smartest travel habits you can adopt. Simply carry it empty through airport security and refill it at water fountains or airport lounges before boarding your flight. Staying hydrated during your journey is essential for combating dehydration, which can worsen jet lag and leave you feeling fatigued. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and saves you from buying multiple plastic bottles on the go. I’ve been using my Owala Freesip for travelling as well as my day-to-day water bottle.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a must-have for any international trip. It provides peace of mind by covering unexpected events such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost luggage, or travel delays. Make sure to carry a copy of your insurance policy, including emergency contact numbers, in your carry-on. This ensures quick access if you need assistance abroad and can save you from costly out-of-pocket expenses.

Explore instant travel insurance for 140 countries with World Nomads.

Travel Documents

Organising your travel documents is crucial for a smooth journey. Keep your passport, boarding passes, visas, and any necessary health certificates in a secure, easy-to-access place within your carry-on. Using a travel wallet or document organiser can help keep everything neat and prevent last-minute scrambling at security checkpoints or immigration.

Wallet & Travel Card

Keeping your money and cards organised and accessible helps reduce stress when managing expenses during your trip.

I honestly didn’t expect this level of cinematic footage from the smallest video camera I’ve ever used 🎥
Every clip in this reel was filmed on the @djiglobal DJI Osmo Pocket 4 — a tiny, pocket-sized camera that’s quickly become one of my favourite tools for capturing everyday moments and travel content without carrying extra gear.

I brought it along on a recent work trip and was surprised by how natural it felt to film with. No setup stress, no bulky equipment — just pull it out, hit record, and keep moving. It’s the kind of camera that makes you want to film more because it’s so easy to use.

Out here, everything feels a little slower… a little more intentional.

Set deep in the Pilbara, this is where you trade city noise for stillness, and wake up to soft light filtering through the bush. Tucked right on the edge of Joffre Gorge, the eco tents blend into the landscape — designed with sustainability in mind, using low-impact materials while still offering those small comforts that make all the difference.

Think a king bed, your own open-air ensuite, solar-powered touches, and a front deck to sit with your morning coffee. Simple, but thoughtfully done.

Days here are spent exploring one of Australia’s most ancient landscapes — over 2 billion years in the making. Deep gorges, rust-red cliffs, waterfalls after rain, and hidden waterholes you can actually swim in. There’s direct access to walking trails and guided experiences, so it really does feel like you’re stepping straight into the heart of it all. 🍃⛰️

And at night, it’s the kind of place where the stars take over completely. ✨

Thanks to the team at @karijiniecoretreat for hosting the stay this past month. It was the perfect base for exploring Karijini National Park for the first time.

💭 Would you add this glamping experience to your bucket list?

Some of these apps help me learn new things, some keep my brain active, and others simply remind me that technology can still feel calm and inspiring instead of overwhelming.

Proof you don’t need a big camera to film moments Proof you don’t need a big camera to film moments like this…

Here’s what I’m loving so far about the DJI Osmo Pocket 4:

🎥 ActiveTrack 7.0 that locks onto your subject and follows automatically

🤳🏼 Built-in filters with fill light for soft, glowing skin straight from the camera. Includes film-inspired tones and beauty filters that make portraits look polished without over-editing.

🔍 4K recording with up to 2× zoom

🌈 New 1-inch CMOS sensor with 14 stops of dynamic range

🎞️ 10-bit D-Log Professional Mode for more flexibility in post-production

📱 Remote control via the DJI Mimo app — perfect for solo travellers or hands-free filming

🙇🏻‍♀️ Compact and lightweight, ideal for vlogging, travel days, and everyday carry

🔄 Rotating touchscreen to switch easily between horizontal and vertical shooting cinematic video

🎥 Video settings on the DJI Osmo Pocket 4:
→ Filmed in 4k at 30fps and slow motion at 4k 120fps.
→ Filmed in D-Log M for flexible colour grading.

Camera gear I never leave the house without… 📷 🙂‍↔ Camera gear I never leave the house without… 📷 🙂‍↔️

These are my everyday essentials for photography, whether I’m working or travelling. I try to keep things as simple as possible, but since I shoot across different formats, I usually end up carrying a few devices.

Just a reminder: you don’t need expensive gear to create aesthetic content. Most phones these days are more than capable, especially if you learn how to use manual settings.

💭 If you’re curious about anything I use, feel free to ask in the comments.
